I am finally in the club.
Just thought I would do a quick post for this special day.
For as long as I can remember, this day has been an odd one to me. Like most kids, when it came to giving dad a gift, I never knew what to get him. As a youngster, I would just get him something I wanted and hope he would give it to me. These days, the youngsters like to do the same, but I have noticed they like to include dad in things they want to do. For instance, my nephew wants to take my brother to go see How To Tame Your Dragon 2. Not too sure he wants to see that one.
As I got older, Father's Day was a day when my dad got to have my mom's most excellent stroganoff. She was an amazing cook and it was a real treat. Also at this point, I felt a little more sentimental. So, I started making gifts for my dad that really sucked. But hey, it was the thought that counted.
As I got even older, this is around the teen years, I started to feel more obligated to show up to dinner. My presence was gift enough.
As I got even older, I realized that my dad was actually a person who liked stuff. All those years of horrible gifts and selfishness did not do justice for what my dad did for me. But that leaves the great question of what do dads really want for Father's Day?
Now that I am a dad, I guess I will get to experience all these things from the other side. Maybe one day I will find the answer.

Happy Father's Day to all the military dads, the dads of animals, step dads, not technically related but still step up dads, and just plain old regulars dads (but not to deadbeat dads. You give the rest of us a bad rap). May you all get plenty of things you do not want and may you enjoy every bit of it.
